Burlesque is an art form steeped in a theatrical tradition, from the early days of cabaret, music hall and vaudeville through to the neo-burlesque art forms of the 21st century. Characterisation with Charlie is a 90 minute workshop in characterisation and narrative development techniques for burlesque. Charlie will discuss what it is to develop a narrative and different techniques to develop your character within a routine. As a group you will participate in a variety of exercises in theatrical character and narrative development providing you with the skills to reapply to your burlesque performance.

Previous Burlesque experience is desired as you will build on and develop your existing skill sets, it's perfect for all ages, shapes and persuasions. All levels of skill will be catered to. Charlie D. Barkle has over 18 years of performance experience and training, with a certiﬁcate II in music theatre from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Charlie is a classically trained singer and an accomplished actor, musician, and cabaret artist. Charlie was voted in at number 10 in Australia in 21st Century Burlesque’s top 50, 2015, and crowned Mr Boylesque Australia 2014. He was also the winner of the Ballarat Cabaret Award and nominated for a Green Room Award for his production ‘Shaken’ at the 2016 Melbourne Fringe, and nominated twice for the Cabaret Award for his production ‘The Dummies Guide to Opera’ at Fringe World 2014 and 2015. Charlie has also been recognised as best supporting actor at the 2008 and 2010 Limelight awards and also awarded best actor and best supporting actor at the 2010 and 2011 Plovers respectively.
